'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' shines as it nears a reality milestone

It's unrealistic -- if not downright impossible -- to watch everything that premieres on TV.

So I've only seen bits and pieces of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" over the years and didn't have any preconceived opinions of the A&E series -- which premiered in 2006 and celebrates its 100th episode this season as TV's longest-running family reality show (overtaking MTV's "The Osbournes" for that niche honor).

What I did see, in watching tomorrow night's fifth-season premiere, is a show meshing the requisite reality elements -- including facing-the-camera "confessionals," underscored here with weirdly "Leave It to Beaver"-type music -- with some genuine emotion.
It's obvious that KISS frontman Gene Simmons, despite all his public bravado and bluster (overbearing at times), loves his longtime partner, former Playboy centerfold/actress Shannon Tweed, and their kids -- Nick, 21 and Sophie, 17. And it's obvious those feelings are mutual.

The 2010 Indianapolis KISS Fan Expo will be held Sunday, March 21 from 11 am - 7 pm at the Ramada Inn East (Formerly Holiday Inn East, same location as always just new name.) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This year's special guest is KISS drummer Eric Singer! Eric will do a Q/A and be available for photos and autographs at the KISSonline booth throughout the day. KISS tribute band's Mr. Speed and KIDS will both perform.

Children 12 and under get in free! KISS merchandise and collectibles will be on sale throughout the day. There will be giveaways and contests too.

Gene Simmons Shows Off His Tongue on 'Jimmy Fallon'

Gene Simmons stopped by 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC), and we learned way more about his freakishly long tongue than we really need to know. For example, it took him a while to figure out what to do with it. Also, it gets musty in there, so he has to air it out. Did we really need to see it, though, Gene? Really? It just confirms what we've known all along - that you're descended from lizards.

TODAY IS THE 35th ANNIVERSARY OF KISS DRESSED TO KILL

On this day in KISStory - March 20, 1975, KISS released Dressed to Kill, the band's third studio album. "C'mon and Love Me", and "Rock and Roll All Nite" were released as singles from the album. Dressed to Kill was certified Gold by the RIAA on February 28, 1977.

On this day in KISStory - March 18, 1977, KISS arrived in Japan for the first time for their 'Sneak Attack' Tour. The band flew into Narita International airport in Tokyo on Pan Am flight #801, christened the "KISS Clipper," which was actually painted on the side of the Boeing 747.

"KISS Faces Japan" from Sixteen Magazine:

"When KISS flew into Japan for their first tour there, they spent two hours on the plane before it landed putting on their make-up for the fans(KISS never appears without make-up in public). Trouble was, when they got to immigration, the officials wouldn't let them into the country until they'd taken it all off so that they could compare their real faces with the photos on their passports."

They had to go into a bathroom, take the makeup off to clear customs and then re-apply it back on. And they allowed a sketch artist to draw them sans make-up.
